Survivor

Authors Note: The books “The fighting ground” by Avi and “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton both have similar themes in the books. They also both have some differences too.

In the books “The fighting ground” and “The Outsiders” both have similarities and differences. In “The fighting ground” In the 1800’s, Jonathan goes off to war and he ends up getting caught by the British army.  At the end of the book he escapes. And in the book “The Outsiders” Is this gang of young adults in the 1960’s and they have some gang battles and people of the family “gang” die. (A fast way to tell what happens). And there are some ways that the books are comparable.

The ways the books are similar is by how they were survivors. In “The Fighting ground” Jonathan goes off to war and when he is in the war he gets lost and the British captured him and basically kept him as a prisoner. And in about the tenth chapter of the book Jonathan escapes. That is how Jonathan in the fighting ground is a Survivor. In the book “The Outsiders” The gang goes through many difficulties but, when there in the gang battle that is when it’s probably the most dangerous. But Johnny which is one of the main characters in the book dies from helping kids out of a fire. And other charter dies so the gang members so not all of the members are survivors.

The books are not just similar by being survivors, the characters also had bravery. Jonathan had to be very brave to try to escape the burning church with the kids because if he was not careful he would have gotten killed in the church. Overall the whole gang is brave because of what happen to them in the past. For example of textually evidence Johnny had abusive parents and that’s why he ended up in the gang. For Jonathan he went into war. That’s really all you have to say. He’s brave to go off to war especially because he’s 13 years old.

Even though they might have some similarities they do they do have their differences. The books are both in much different time periods. Another difference is that Jonathan went into a war (“The Fighting ground”), which is different than getting into a gang fight in the 60’s. Also Jonathan got kept prisoner which nothing like that happen the in the book “The Outsiders”. And those are some differences from each of the books.

And even though there in a lot different time periods they are alike. Also even thought they had some personalities that are similar too. As you see each of the books (“The fighting ground”) and (“The Outsiders”) each have their similarities and their differences.

Jonathans today

Authors note: From what has happen to Jonathan and the lessons he has learned from going into the war, what would have happen to him next in the chapters if the book kept going into this story?

At the end of the book “The fighting ground” by Avi. When Jonathan comes back from the war, he goes right to his dad’s farm. And when Jonathan arrives to his father, he is really happy to see him. And to know that he is okay compared to what happen to the him.(The Father), (His leg got shot). And that is basically what happened in the end of the book.

What the author did not put in the book is what he would do after the war, what job he would be doing or what going to his mother knowing that he lied to her and seeing her again. I would think those are the big topics that the author did not put in the book to let the readers know what happen.

In my opinion on what would have happen to Jonathan is me predicting say that Jonathan would have been working on his father’s farm for most of his life. Why I say that is there is no textually evidence that he could or would go somewhere else. And for Jonathan seeing his mother again is I am sure with most mothers is that see would be happy to see her child again. Also for Jonathan’s father, he would like to hear some war stories.

Over all I think all of my predicting would have come very close or even true. There is textual evidence the supports what I put down like Jonathan working on the farm. There is evidence that says that he worked on his father’s farm and that is why I know that there is a good chance that he will work on his father’s farm for a long time.

Jonathans view

Authors note: Have you ever blamed someone? Did you ever look in their point of view of the situation? Because there is a hundred percent chance that they have a different point of view of thing then you in the situation.

In my book “The fighting ground” by Avi. Jonathan is thirteen years old and he ends up going into the Revolutionary war. He believes that it will be a fine time and in a way be fun and he’s going to kick butt. But he’s father does not want him to go into the war. So his father’s point of view is he knows it’s bad to go to war, but his son Jonathan goes anyways.

If I was there, my point of view there is that Jonathan does not care what his father thinks and he will go no matter what. So I feel that he is a person that thinks he is always right and really never listens to anyone. And I know right off the bat that war is not a play ground for kids. And that is that it’s never fun in war. (War is a terrible place).

Now if Jonathans father’s point of view in the book would be that all of a sudden my son wants to go off to war and I know from being in it is that is a very dreadful time. But because of Jonathans big bother that went into war, now Jonathan wants to go into war with little gun experience knowing he is only thirteen years old. Back to the fathers view is it is dumb to go war and especially because Jonathan is so young for war.

Overall in Jonathans point of view is he is doing the right thing and he’s father’s point of view thinking that it is dumb to do what Jonathans doing. And has a high chance of dying. For me I think he made a bad decision to go off to war. That is a overall of my point of view.

What really is family?

Authors Note: The definition of family is a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. And that is one of the main big topics that comes in the story of “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hilton.

Throughout the story of “The Outsiders” the boys are surely a family and all of the boys have a different definition of family. Like Jonny’s family, which is a abusive family and he does not live with them. So that makes Johnny has a different definition for his family. (They are not good parents and he is with his gang family).

What is interesting that the greaser gang family is not blood related and they help each other and would do pretty much anything for each other. That is why they are a family. And even thought they don’t have any kind of parents, it’s the boys that are the parents of the family in a sense. Really for each of the boys in “The Outsiders” has their own definition of family.

But what can be worse than your parents died? That is what Ponyboy, Sodapop and Darry had to go through. There only definition of family is there gang, for their family. So that is why that the boys are together basically. (Both have a bad blood relative family or don’t have them anymore). The book talks about them doing things for each other for evidence. (Chapter 3, Page 40).

Overall you do not have to be blood related to be a family. And I that matters is that they all care for each other no matter what. But even in a book of magic and fairies or reel life family is family no matter what and that is why family matters.

The impact on the Brothers

Authors note: There are plenty of things wrong that happen to go wrong for the boys In the "The Outsiders" but which boy really had a loss of innocence.

Imagine you have it all, your soc "basically" have at least a good amount of money and all of a sudden your parents die in a car crash. That happen to you and that forced you to grow up. That's Sodapop in the novel “The Outsiders”, by S.E. Hilton. His parents were killed in a car crash. And that had a huge impact on Sodapop, Ponyboy and Darry (Being all Brothers). Since that happen they basically turned into greasers without a choice. Just to show have fast it can all change.(Rich to poor).

Now being pretty poor Sodapop had to drop out of school and get a job at a gas station for Ponyboy in order for Ponyboy to stay in school. By dropping out of being a football star in high school and getting a job at the gas station shows a loss of innocence. How I know that is because for the book for evidence says that in (Chapter 3, Page 40) “Sodapop dropped out of school so he could get a job and keep Ponyboy in school”. And it also says that it will be Darry’s turn soon when he has to get two jobs and tries to keep a family without having any fun like Sodapop which Sodapop has been not doing (Sodapop does not have any fun).

That is some textual evidence that Sodapop has a loss of innocence. But it is really too bad if that where to ever happen to someone because they put their education on the line so (Someone) or in this case Ponyboy could keep going. In my option I think Sodapop should have stayed in school and Sodapop should just have one job and then Darry gets a job to so then they can still be in school and not drop out and damage your education.

Even before of dropping out of school when Sodapop was still young, he had some difficult circumstances that change his life, forcing them to grow up, mature. And that is why I think he has a loss of innocence. All of that happen just as fast as a car crash and happen because of the car crash.
That’s why I chose Sodapop for my loss of innocence.

The effects of no parents

Can you picture what your life would be like right now if you had no parents? You would not have most if not close to everything that you would have right now. You would most likely be on your own, doing almost everything by yourself. Now that is how it is like in the book the “The Outsiders”. Now think what it would be like in the 1960’s.

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Parents of the boy’s in “The outsiders” had done something to their child to where the boy’s are in the “The Outsiders”. So how did they get there? The Curtis parents were killed in a car accident which Darry takes care of the gang family. Or maybe the parents aren’t dead like Johnny’s parents. When the parents were physically abusing him or they're ignoring him. So then Johnny would stay away from his home for long periods of time and still his parents did not seem to care. And that would be why he was in the greasers gang.

Of what all that had happen in the greasers I would have to say that it was most if not all of it was their parents fault. Now what you might be thinking is that they could have chosen not to get in a brawl or something to lead what happen to them. But if the parents would have choose to love them and cared for them and taught them from right too wrong they would not have to worry about them doing dumb things that they did in the book.

Instead of doing dumb things what exactly would the boy’s be doing if they were loved or if their parents would still be alive Ponyboy and Darrys parents were killed in car crash they for sure would be with their parents and they would have for sure never be in the gang of the greasers. And Johnny and Dally’s parents where died so it could have been possible that Dally would not have been on the street when he was 10 years old. Overall if their parents were alive they would not be friends but they would have not had to make big sacrifices. Like when Johnny died for example.

In the end it was really too bad because it was not a happy ending and too many people got hurt and killed just because it start as a car crash and as simple as not loving your child. Many things would have never been just be not really having any parents or not real parents. (Meaning parents that love their child). That is overall how really important it is of being a good parent

My favorite character in “The Outsiders”

There is many characters in the book “The outsiders” and to me, one really stands out from the other characters and that is Cherry. Cherry is a soc except still hangs around the greasers. Furthermore that just that makes her stand out right away!

Cherry for the greasers in one in a million to the boys because she is such a good person. There has never been a soc that hang out with greasers for real (Meaning not just teasing them or something.) She is very rich and they are very poor.  But she does standout because once again because no one in the socs would want to be around any of the greasers. Sherri is open minded she does not care if you are rich, poor, very poor or even richer then her, she will always be open minded and be polite no matter who you are.

What I also like about her is she is not in a gang and just does not harm people, in fact she does the complete opposite. And in ways I would like to think that I am like her. Meaning that I try to be fastidious to people and help them when they need it. As a result that is another reason why I like Cherry.

Those are some reasons why I like I think that Cherry more than the other characters in the book the “The outsiders”. Those are the skills of a great person. That is why that Cherry is my favorite character in the Outsiders even though she is not in the book much.

I'm I proud of my country?

America oh America there is so many good and bad things about you. Unfortunately to me it seems like there are some unfortunate things among us here in America. Especially being in debt in trillions of dollars, which will take many years to get out of. Oh America oh America too many things seem to have gone wrong.

What I seem not to understand is why does the USA have to be in the middle of everything! For example if there's a war on the other side of the world, I bet the USA is there in some way. And we need to get all of our debt gone until we get in the middle of something that we don't need to be in. That is what I think we all should do.

And to make things worse with all of our debt we have 14 million people unemployed. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Household Survey Data. That is almost 10% of America that does not have a job! That is way too high and ridiculous! And I don't see it getting any better any time soon.

All of what I listed was unfortunately true and has enormous effect on us in America and not in a good way. But all of it is true so America oh America what should we do.

More money for cutting the lawn

I think that I should be able to get more money when cutting the grass at my house. Why I think that is when I cut other peoples lawns I get three to five times more of amount than what I get for cutting the lawn at my house. Even though that I am cutting my families grass I still think I could get more. And there are reasons for that.

My reasons are well why not? Half of it will be going into the bank? If you were a parent wouldn’t you like to hear that half the amount of your child’s money is going to bank? Not just something that I don’t need? So that makes me think I’m getting more but in the end, I am getting the same amount to spend. But In the future my money that’s going to the bank is then later to be used. For example is for going to collage or getting a car or something like that.

It would be nice to be getting more money in the bank but, there are good reasons why they wouldn’t  pay me more. Some reasons that I think they will not pay me more is because I use their lawn more and their gas which it all adds up.  Maybe they just don’t have the extra money to pay me. Or they just simply don’t want to pay me more. All of that I understand, but I think it would just make more sense to pay me more for cutting the lawn.

Over all it makes more sense in my mind that they should pay me more because that will give me a good amount of money going into the bank and help me in the future. But overall it is not up to me.

Never turning back

It was a frigid fall day. Our team the Pirates were on the 50 yard line. It was 4th and inches. It was the last play of the game. The score was zero to seven. The star quarterback (Hanson)  got injured last play of the drive.

The next play of the drive they were sending in Zimmer the 2nd string quarterback which has not played all season. And last season Zimmer only thrown one time that was last season and that was a interception that turned into a touchdown. To lose the championship game.

The fans were booing when Zimmer was coming out into the field. Zimmer could tell the fans have not forgotten what happen last season. Even Zimmer in his head was in  some way booing himself from what happen last year. But Zimmer was trying to get his head in the game because now he has another chance.

Zimmer had forgotten almost every play in the play book since he would never thought that he would play again. Zimmer did remember only the QB sneak. Okay QB sneak on hike. What?! "said Zimmer's teammates. A  QB sneak on the 50 yard line! They said. Okay ladies and gentlemen this is it. Hike! Said Zimmer. What’s that! Zimmer is running on the 50 yard line! Oh my! Zimmer's going to the 40,30,20,10…

No good! What yelled the fans! The game is over. Zimmer was just at the one yard line. Everyone could tell how depressed Zimmer was about not getting the touchdown walking back to the sidelines. Hey kid, Said the Coach, even though you didn’t make it, you never turned back. And that is the only thing Zimmer wanted to here.
