Letter to Jonas

Dear Jonas,

I hope that you have learned a lot from me. Jonas, for how long that I have done my job being the Receiver of memory it’s a not an easy job. Why I’m writing this letter to you is because when I first started this job it was not simple for me, just like it’s not easy for you. In addition to I will tell you maybe what you could do to make things get easier.

First of all, just like you I had troubles learning about fear, pain and loneliness. When my teacher was teaching me, he gave me some of the same memories that I gave you. (One of them was the memory of going down a snowy hill with a sled.) Like I have taught you, my teacher also gave me many dreadful memories and it was tuff to get through it. What would help me is I would have him give me a good memory before I would go home because then I would not be in a crabby mood. I’ll also do that for you if you want that.

Second of all, it was very hard for me to just start lying to my family. It was also hard keeping up with my friends because I would go to my teacher most days and I would not be able to see my friends and Family as much just like you. Jonas to be straight honest with you, there’s not a whole lot you can do about lying to your friends and family. You just got to go with the flow with this job. It is too bad that is a rule for the job but you have to do what you have to do.

Third of all, dealing with not telling anyone about what I’m telling you. When I was your age I did think that my teacher was telling me was crazy. But I did not want to tell anyone because I did have a good relationship with my parents so I really had know one to tell since I also did not really have a friends. But in your case Jonas you know that you can ask me anything you want and I’ll do my job to try to help you as much as I can.

Sincerely,

The Giver

A key quote in the book The Giver

Authors Note: I'm writing about a quote that stood out to me and to tell how big of a effect it has on the peopleIn the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. A quote really stood out. The quote is “Do not discuss your training to any other members of the community, including your parents and your Elders". That quote has the biggest effect Jonas throughout the whole book.

In the book The Giver, by Lois Lowey Jonas was given some rules that only two people know about, including himself and that has a impact on Jonas throughout the book. One example how that is proven is that a quote that Jonas was given was “Do not discuss your training to any other members of the community, including your parents and your Elders", “Chapter 8, page 68”. What the quote is saying is the information that the older Giver I giving Jonas cannot be told to anyone. It is information of Pain, Fear, loneliness and also happiness. As for us, it seems pretty normal stuff but at this town, it’s not even heard of.

Jonas was normal just like everyone else before he started his job not knowing much. He also did not even know of pain, fear, loneliness and also happiness was. That is really where his job changed his life forever. This is where the quote comes in to play. As Jonas experiences these things he can’t tell anyone. That is more proof that the Government there under has Secrecy and wants almost no one to know the real truth. As you can Imagine, it most of been hard to get through because he can’t tell anyone the real truth. That is how that how the quote has an effect on Jonas in the book The Giver.

Third off all, the worst part about the rule that Jonas has to foul is that Jonas has problems not saying or correcting his family for what is the truth. Jonas does like that he can ask The Giver questions but not his family. And overall to that he thinks that it is not fair that he can’t say anything. If Jonas does not foul this rule he will end up getting killed because of it. So that is also a reason why he does not totally like his job.

In the end, the quote plays a big role in the book by having a effect on Jonas and others. It also proves how corrupt there Government is. Overall what the Government is doing is not helping anyone by what they’re doing and just making things worst which is proven in the quote.

My favorite quote in The Giver

Authors Note: In the book The Giver by Lois Lower a quote really stood out to me. And that Quote is “Do not discuss your training to any other members of the community, including your parents and your Elders". That plays a huge role in the book for Jonas and his family.

How that quote ends up taking one of the biggest roles in the book is it’s a rule for Jonas’s new job. This is no normal job, Jonas the main character gets picked to be the Receiver of memory, which really explains what it is by its title. The Giver which is an older gentleman gives the young boy his memories. Why this is such a big deal is that Jonas gets to learn and experience what pain is and see colors. You must think this is normal day stuff, well in this town it is not even heard of. Just for an example of how Jonas must feel is you just won power ball but you can’t tell anyone. That’s must how Jonas feels right now.

The new job that Jonas has really seems to just be hurting him. Why I say that is because each day he goes to his job which would be just The Giver and Jonas. Since Jonas does that each day he must be losing contact with his friends and maybe even with his family. Jonas has a big secret and it must be hard not to ask his family any questions or tell them anything of what he has learned. Jonas can only ask question to The Giver. And I think Jonas is learning too much things at once.

What Jonas is just learning in the book right now is the last Receiver of memory ended up killing himself because they think that he took in too much information at once. And right now in the book Jonas is taking in too much information and he is starting to go crazy. It is possible that maybe he will also end up killing himself too. But overall I think that he won’t do that because he loves his family and he would not want to do that to them.

In the end this quote as you can see plays a big role in the book. Many things could happen, but what will happen is suppose to happen. That’s why the quote is such an important role in the book The Giver.

The Giver

Authors Note: In the book The Giver by Lois Lowery, Jonas is turning a twelve and he gets a signed a job and meets with his teacher and that plays a big role in the book The Giver.

Jonas is the main charter in the book The Giver. Jonas is considerate, cautious , mature, compassionate person. He is also a respectful person. For an example in the book, he is very respect to the older man (The Giver). Lastly what really makes him different or unique is that he is as wise as the old man.(At least going to be). That’s what Jonas is like so far in the book The Giver.

Jonas is turning a twelve and that means that there is a significantly important ceremony because he is turning a twelve and that means that he gets his job. Meaning that the Chef decides their jobs for what they will do for the rest of their lives. And Jonas gets a very unique job. The job that Jonas got pick from has not been picked for many years.  And that is the Receiver of Memory.

What the Receiver of Memory is,  this person gives the new student some of his memories. For example at first the giver shows Jonas the memory of coldness and sledding down a hill full of snow. So that made Jonas really feel like he was in a sled going down a hill. So that was a happy feeling but, the giver really has not showed him what pain was since in there city there is no war or fear or pain. The Giver showed what a sunburn felt like, so Jonas ended up getting to experience it. But his job is not about all about experiencing things; it is also about learning about the truth.

Since Jonas got his new job he will end up having a big effect on his family and his friends. How I know that is according to the book on “Chapter 8, page 68” It’s say that “you can’t discuss your training with any other member of the community, including your parents and Elders”. And another important rule that you have to follow is that you may lie. Furthermore that with get him in trouble in the end and that is how he can affect other characters.

Overall Jonas seems to like his job so far. But so far he has not had to lie to anyone or do some of the rules that a Receiver of Memory gets to do. The big question in this book is, how will Jonas react to The Giver telling him the truth?
