In the book The Giver, by Lois Lowey Jonas was given some rules that only two people know about, including himself and that has a impact on Jonas throughout the book. One example how that is proven is that a quote that Jonas was given was “Do not discuss your training to any other members of the community, including your parents and your Elders", “Chapter 8, page 68”. What the quote is saying is the information that the older Giver I giving Jonas cannot be told to anyone. It is information of Pain, Fear, loneliness and also happiness. As for us, it seems pretty normal stuff but at this town, it’s not even heard of.
Jonas was normal just like everyone else before he started his job not knowing much. He also did not even know of pain, fear, loneliness and also happiness was. That is really where his job changed his life forever. This is where the quote comes in to play. As Jonas experiences these things he can’t tell anyone. That is more proof that the Government there under has Secrecy and wants almost no one to know the real truth. As you can Imagine, it most of been hard to get through because he can’t tell anyone the real truth. That is how that how the quote has an effect on Jonas in the book The Giver.
Third off all, the worst part about the rule that Jonas has to foul is that Jonas has problems not saying or correcting his family for what is the truth. Jonas does like that he can ask The Giver questions but not his family. And overall to that he thinks that it is not fair that he can’t say anything. If Jonas does not foul this rule he will end up getting killed because of it. So that is also a reason why he does not totally like his job.
In the end, the quote plays a big role in the book by having a effect on Jonas and others. It also proves how corrupt there Government is. Overall what the Government is doing is not helping anyone by what they’re doing and just making things worst which is proven in the quote.
